French as a Second Language Teacher (Part-Time)
Polaris School and Centre is seeking French teachers to lead the French Language program at Polaris. This is a contract position with teaching hours ranging from 4 to 12 hours weekly (can be one or two positions). Having opened our doors in September 2018, Polaris School and Centre is a small independent school in the Ottawa area looking for individuals with a pioneering spirit to join our team and growing school community. The ideal candidate will be a French speaker with either a Waldorf-teacher training certificate, a provincial certified teaching certificate or a French as a Second Language teaching certificate, who feels comfortable teaching French as a second language to combined grade classes. Knowledge of Waldorf pedagogy and/or Waldorf teaching experience is an asset. We are looking for a talented and motivated individual who enjoys working with children, teaching and works well in a collaborative manner. Responsibilities:

Polaris School and Centre has successfully received funding from the Canada Summer Job Program for two positions, Marketing and Outreach Assistant and Administrative and Teaching Assistant.
As per the funding agreement, these positions are open to youth aged 15 to 30 who are eligible to work in Canada. Successful candidates are required to complete questionnaires and provide details of employment. Administrative and Teaching Assistant:
The Administrative and Teaching Assistant will be under the supervision of the summer camp coordinator and school administrator. Full-Time, 8 weeks, $18/hr, Start date: June 24th, 2024 Job Description: The Administrative and Teaching Assistant will be assisting with the logistical and clerical duties of running a summer camp at Polaris School and Centre. It is an excellent opportunity to learn business skills and use helpful tools such as spreadsheets, websites, and various software applications that will be valuable for any career path. Additionally, they will also gain hands on skills working with a lead teacher and children aged 4 to 12. Responsibilities: • Provide administrative support for summer camp programs including assisting with registration, reception, secretarial and clerical duties and communication with facilitators and parents. • Assist summer camp program facilitators as needed. This may include implementing activities such as cooperative and community building games, crafts, gardening and snack and lunch supervision. • Assist with purchasing and cataloging of items and supplies • Collaborate with the School Administrator and Marketing Coordinator to assist with marketing. This may include taking photographs, short videos and providing information as needed for the creation of marketing materials. • The assistant may be asked to participate in outreach activities to expand local awareness of the school and the unique programs offered. This could include participation in local community events and/or the creation of specific events to promote the school and programs. Full-Time, 8 weeks, $18/hr, Start date: June 24th, 2024 Job description The Marketing and Outreach Assistant for Polaris School and Centre will have a chance to learn and be mentored about how to best expand awareness of programs through social media, websites, and other marketing materials. They will learn how to create engaging and high-quality content on all platforms, as well as how to analyze results; useful skills for many career paths. Outreach within the Ottawa community is a great opportunity to build networks and learn about event planning. Responsibilities: • Collaborate with and serve as a marketing resource to the School Administrator and Marketing Committee. This includes assisting with social media posts, external communication, the school’s website and marketing materials. • Participate in outreach activities to expand local awareness of the school and the unique programs offered. This could include participation in local community events and/or the creation of specific events to promote the school and programs. • Assist in creating and publishing high-quality written and visual content on all social platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) to drive engagement, grow and foster our community. Monitor the wider social media environment to identify relevant content sharing opportunities. • Engage with and interview people who are part of the Polaris community to develop content for newsletters, website and social media posts, with a strong focus on storytelling and highlighting the school’s inclusive, diverse and warm community. • Provide retail support in the school store as needed. This may include updating the store website, doing an inventory count and creating seasonal displays.
